SIG Combibloc Adds 70 Million USD Investments for Capacity Expansion in China June 2007. SIG Combibloc (Suzhou) Co., Ltd. announced a new investment of 70 million USD (550 million RMB) to its packaging materials plant in Suzhou (Jiangsu Province), including the installation of a coating line to improve capacity. This is the third expansion of SIG Combibloc since its Suzhou plant was put into production in July 2004. With the additional investment, SIG Combibloc’s cumulative investment in China exceeds 1 billion RMB, achieving annual capacity of 5 billion packages. The new plant facilities will go on stream in the second half of 2008. This act will also provide more job opportunities and cultivate more professional talents for Suzhou. As one of the world’s leading systems suppliers of aseptic carton packaging and filling machines for beverages and food, SIG Combibloc is recognized on a global scale as a partner for leading food, dairy and beverage manufactures. In 2004, the first packaging materials plant of SIG Combibloc in China located in the Suzhou Industrial Park was put into production on a 60,000 square meters site. Hitherto, using coated packaging materials provided by the facility in Thailand, the Suzhou plant completes the gravure printing and finish-processing to ensure offering top quality aseptic carton packages to Chinese consumers. The Chinese liquid dairy and non-carbonated beverage market is rapidly growing by 30% annually in recent five years and is expected to keep substantial developments, thus leading to an ever-increasing demand for innovative and safe packaging materials. Given these conditions, SIG Combibloc accelerates its investment in China. With its stable business development in China and recognition of the Chinese market, SIG Combibloc expanded the printing and finish-processing capabilities in the Suzhou plant at the end of 2005. This year, SIG Combibloc is undertaking further expansion which includes the installation and commissioning of an in-house coating line to realize the entire state-of-the-art aseptic carton manufacturing in the Suzhou plant. This is another move to promote the company’s development in China. Markus Boehm, CEO of SIG Combibloc China said, “SIG Combibloc is confident of the strong growth of the Chinese market. We value and endeavor to fulfill our long-term commitment to the existing and potential customers and the Chinese market. The installation of the new coating line to the Suzhou plant will greatly improve our productivity of packaging materials. Then SIG Combibloc can offer local customers shorter delivery, more flexible and convenient services, while further enhancing our competitiveness in the packaging industry.” SIG Combibloc has made great progress in China in recent years and its customers include Yili, Mengniu, Huiyuan and other leading domestic dairy and beverage manufacturers. It is foreseen that SIG Combibloc will play a more and more important role in Chinese liquid dairy and beverage industry.
