Recycling Even after use the carton pack is still valuable. All components can easily be recycled or recovered. Beverage cartons are suitable for all local and national collection and disposal schemes: whether for material recycling or incineration with energy recovery. Even in the event of landfill in areas where there are not yet recycling facilities, flattened carton packs take up a minimum of space. The recycling of beverage cartons is a simple process that is well established in numerous countries. New, stable paper-based products such as folding boxes and reel winding cores are made from the long, rigid cellulose fibres. The residues of polyethylene, closures and aluminium also have useful application potential: For example, in the cement industry as alternatives for fossil raw materials (crude oil, bauxite) or separately as recovered resources (e.g. energy, pure aluminium and paraffin wax). A key requirement for successful recycling is a functioning collection and sorting system for used packages. The organization and implementation of national collection and recycling varies from country to country. SIG Combibloc is actively engaged in the creation and expansion of national collection systems, adequate recycling capacities and advanced recycling technologies for carton packs. |
